Do you know what the word bonhomie means? It is a feeling of friendliness amongst a group of people. That is exactly how you feel when you attend the Bone Builders group which meets at Ebenezer Church every Monday and Wednesday. This group of ladies has just celebrated their one-year anniversary of participating in the club. Anne Harvey is their warm coach who encourages women to empower themselves by taking care of their bodies. It is no secret that as we age, we lose bone density and muscle mass. Improving your balance is helpful in the prevention of falls. I arrived to take a group photo, but they convinced me to join along. There were many smiles as I tried to learn exercises. The ladies assured me that they too were unsteady at the beginning of their journeys. There is nothing to stop you when you allow yourself to laugh about it. They have all experienced the success of increased flexibility and strength. The providers at NDHC have even referred people to the program because they are seeing real-time results. Anne is thoughtful as she tells everyone to “just do you”. This is not a race. Each person makes strides at their own pace by listening to their bodies. This group of ladies would love to see more people attend the classes and they will make you feel very welcome.
