Many years ago, James Tangen enjoyed attending auctions to find treasured vintage tractors or pickup trucks. He spent countless hours repairing and restoring these pieces to their former glory. He shared, "The first drive down the road or around the yard with a project was always special."
When you spend so much time filled with love, sweat, and hard work, an attachment is formed; however, the time has come to let someone else take ownership of the Farmalls, Case, and Moline tractors. Karen had no idea that there was so much around the property. James started before last winter, pulling items from the trees and buildings, putting them into formation for the next year's auction.
We don't see many auctions in our area anymore; another event that has been lost to the worldwide internet. People enjoyed driving down the gravel roads to attend the auction, which was also Saturday's social event. The Ebenezer Youth Group served hot ham & cheese sandwiches, along with other treats. It was here that people who hadn't seen each other in ages partake in a good, strong handshake and some small talk.
It was fun to see Wayne Trottier in the auctioneer seat once again. He joked that he thought he had done his last auction three years ago, but evidently, there is a shortage of auctioneers. The summer sun beat down on the weary bidders, but they stuck it out to win the prize.
If you see an Old Time Tractor Pull event, you will likely see the Tangen tractors. If I had had the storage, I would have loved one of those beautiful pickups.
